最近「スティーブン・フライのエドワード朝人の秘密」もリリースされたので、復習のために聞き返しています。
「スティーブン・フライの」というタイトルですが、原作がフライの論文とかと思えばそうではなく、複数の専門家のインタビュー音声にスティーブン・フライのナレーションがついている体裁です。大人気シリーズFry's English Delightと同じ形式ですね。
「秘密」といってもそんなに極秘ネタではなく、普通に世に知られたエピソードも多い。
汚染されたポンプが疫病の発生源だった話と、女装クラブに警察が踏み込んだ話はショーン・ビーン主演の「フランケンシュタイン・クロニクル」で見たわー、史実だったのか。
いまどきらしいのは同性愛の回が「女編」と「男編」の両方あるところでしょうか。ヴィクトリア朝のレズビアンについてちゃんと章立てしてるのは珍しいのでは。たいていオスカー・ワイルドのおまけみたいな扱いだから・・・
レビューはおおむね好評なのですが「BGMのピアノはなんとかならんのか」という苦情が多く、背景音楽はないほうが良いと私も感じました。製作者はどうしても音をかざりたくなるものなのでしょうか。
